PioSolver Review: The Standard Postflop Solver

PioSolver is the reference postflop solver for No-Limit Hold'em on Windows. What it computes, licence tiers, hardware needs, and who should buy.

PioSolver is the solver most other tools are compared with. It computes game-theory-optimal strategies for postflop spots in No-Limit Hold’em and has been the standard study tool for serious players since the mid-2010s.

What it is

  • Category: solver (study tool).
  • Platform: Windows desktop (runs on macOS through virtualisation or compatibility layers).
  • Price: one-time licence in several editions that differ in features and allowed CPU cores.
  • Scope: postflop NLHE; preflop solving requires the higher edition and substantial hardware.

How it works

You define the spot: ranges for both players, stack size, pot, the flop, and a tree of allowed bet and raise sizes. The solver iterates until neither player can improve by deviating and shows the resulting strategies and EVs for every hand in every node. Scripting allows batch solves over many flops, and aggregated reports summarise strategy across boards.

Strengths

  • Accurate, fast for its class, and well understood; results are the reference point in most strategy discussions.
  • Full control over the tree, unlike pre-solved libraries.
  • One-time purchase.

Weaknesses

  • Steep learning curve; building sensible trees and reading output is a skill.
  • Hardware-hungry for large trees and preflop work.
  • Windows-first.

Relation to bots

Solver output is what modern bots are built from, but a solver is not a bot: it works away from the table and cannot decide in real time on an arbitrary spot. See bot vs solver.

Who it is for

Players who want to run their own solves and study specific spots deeply. For pre-solved browsing, GTO Wizard is easier; for a cheaper solver, see Simple Postflop.
