Responsible Gambling

Poker is a game of skill played for money, which makes it gambling. Software does not change that. A bot can play a technically sound strategy and still lose over a long stretch, and it can make it easier to play longer and at higher stakes than you meant to. This page is here because of that.

The basics

• You must be 18 or older (or the legal age where you live) to play online poker or to use this site.
• Only play with money you can afford to lose. Poker bankroll is money set aside for the game, not rent or savings.
• Set limits before a session – time, buy-ins, stop-loss – and keep them. The bot has these settings built in; use them.
• Never chase losses. A losing session is not a debt that the next session owes you.

Warning signs

Gambling has become a problem when it stops being a choice. Common signs: playing longer than planned, hiding play from people close to you, borrowing to play, thinking about poker when you should be doing something else, feeling restless or irritable when you cannot play, and returning the next day to win back losses.

If several of these describe you, take it seriously, whether or not you are winning.

Self-exclusion

Most licensed poker rooms and casinos offer self-exclusion: you ask to be blocked for a fixed period or permanently and they must honour it. Many also offer deposit limits, loss limits and cooling-off periods in the account settings. In several countries a national self-exclusion register covers every licensed operator at once (for example GamStop in the UK). Blocking software such as Gamban or BetBlocker can restrict access to gambling sites on your devices.
