Rakeback Explained: Flat Deals, Loyalty Tiers and Real Value

Rake is the fee the room takes from each pot or tournament entry. Rakeback returns part of it to the player. For anyone who plays regularly, it is the most important number on an operator’s page.

Forms of rakeback

• Flat rakeback. A fixed percentage of the rake you pay returned on a schedule, sometimes through an affiliate arrangement rather than the room itself.
• Loyalty tiers. Points accumulate with rake, and higher tiers return a higher percentage. Most large rooms use this model; the effective rate depends on your volume.
• Rake races and leaderboards. Prize pools shared among the highest-volume players in a period. Valuable for very high volume, close to worthless otherwise.
• Cashback promotions. Time-limited returns on losses or rake, common at casino-first operators.

Calculating the value

Take the rake you pay in a month (tracking software or the room’s own stats will show it), multiply by the effective percentage of the scheme, and compare with what a welcome bonus would release over the same period. For a regular player at low stakes and up, rakeback usually wins within a few months.

What to watch

• Whether rakeback is paid on all games or excludes some.
• Whether points expire or tiers reset monthly.
• Whether an affiliate rakeback deal conflicts with the room’s own promotions, which some rooms forbid combining.
